W tegorocznej edycji Wimbledonu po raz pierwszy od 9 lat w turnieju singlowym mężczyzn wystąpi aż trzech Holendrów.

W turnieju głównym panów zagrają Botic van de Zandschulp, Tallon Griekspoor i Tim van Rijthoven. Po raz ostatni do takiej sytuacji doszło w 2013 r., kiedy to w Wimbledonie wystąpili Robin Haase, Thiemo de Bakker oraz Igor Slijsling.

- To piękne. Myślę, że rok temu mało kto się tego spodziewał. Możemy się wzajemnie stymulować i motywować – powiedział Griekspoor, cytowany przez portal nu.nl.

W pierwszej rundzie tegorocznego Wimbledonu przeciwnikiem Griekspoora, który zajmuje obecnie 53. pozycję w światowym rankingu, będzie Włoch Fabio Fognini (62. w rankingu).

Najwyżej sklasyfikowanym holenderskim tenisistą jest obecnie Van de Zandschulp (25. miejsce). Jego rywalem w pierwszej rundzie będzie 40-letni Hiszpan Feliciano López (dopiero 240. w rankingu).

Van Rijthoven, który zagra na Wimbledonie dzięki przyznanej mu przez organizatorów dzikiej karcie, zmierzy się w pierwszej rundzie z Federico Delbonisem. Van Rijthoven zajmuje teraz 105. miejsce w rankingu, a 31-letni Argentyńczyk jest 84.

W turnieju singlowym kobiet wystąpi tylko jedna zawodniczka z Holandii, Arantxa Rus. Tegoroczny Wimbledon potrwa od 27 czerwca do 10 lipca.

Polska reprezentacja na tegoroczny Wimbledon jest bardzo silna. Gwiazdą jest oczywiście Iga Świątek, obecna liderka światowego rankingu, zwyciężczyni niedawnego French Open i zawodniczka niepokonana od 35 meczów. W turnieju singlowym pań zagrają też Maja Chwalińska, Magdalena Fręch, Katarzyna Kawa i Magda Linette.

W turnieju singlowym mężczyzn zagra dwóch Polaków: Hubert Hurkacz i Kamil Majchrzak. Hurkacz to ubiegłoroczny półfinalista Wimbledonu, a tydzień temu wrocławianin tryumfował w turnieju w Halle.

Netherlands, sport: Three Dutch players at Wimbledon

In this year's Wimbledon, for the first time in 9 years, three Dutch players will play in the men's singles tournament.

Botic van de Zandschulp, Tallon Griekspoor and Tim van Rijthoven will play in the men's main tournament. The last time this happened in year 2013, when Robin Haase, Thiemo de Bakker and Igor Slijsling appeared at Wimbledon.

Botic van de Zandschulp, Tallon Griekspoor en Tim van Rijthoven spelen in het hoofdtoernooi voor mannen. De laatste keer dat dit gebeurde in het jaar 2013, toen Robin Haase, Thiemo de Bakker en Igor Slijsling op Wimbledon verschenen.

Slechts één speelster uit Nederland, Arantxa Rus, zal optreden in het dames enkelspel. Wimbledon vindt dit jaar plaats van 27 juni tot 10 juli.

Bij het heren enkelspel spelen twee Polen: Hubert Hurkacz en Kamil Majchrzak. Hurkacz is vorig jaar de halve finalist van Wimbledon en een week geleden zegevierde de Wrocław-speler in het toernooi in Halle.
